Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
Routr ("the app") is a tool for designing and sharing flag football plays. This policy describes what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. The app is built and operated by Ian Kiprotich ("we," "us").
This policy is written to be plain and short because the app is plain and short. There are no user accounts, no third-party servers under our control, and no advertising.
What the app stores on your device
When you use Routr, the app stores the plays, folders, and settings you create directly on your device using Apple's standard on-device storage (SwiftData). This includes:
- Folders and play names you create.
- Player positions, routes, formations, and notes you draw or type.
- Your app preferences (such as theme choice and snap-to-yard-lines setting).
This data stays on your device. We do not have access to it.
iCloud sync
Routr does not currently sync anything to iCloud — your plays live on the device you drew them on. A future version may offer iCloud sync so your plays appear on your other Apple devices signed in to the same Apple ID. If that is added and you enable it, your data is stored in your own private iCloud database, managed by Apple's CloudKit service. We do not have access to data stored in your private iCloud database. Apple's privacy policy governs how iCloud handles your data: apple.com/legal/privacy.
Sharing plays
The app lets you share what you have drawn through your device's standard share sheet (for example, via Messages, Mail, or AirDrop). You can share a single play as an image, several plays at once as one image each, a play's animation as a video, and a whole folder as a printable PDF playbook. Everything is produced on your device.
When you share, you choose where it goes. What leaves the device contains only what you drew — the play, its routes, and the names you gave it. The app does not transmit shared content to us or to any third party, and sharing sends us nothing: exporting a PDF and running an animation are counted as anonymous events (see below), with none of the content attached.
Analytics and crash reports
The app collects anonymous usage analytics through TelemetryDeck. This is active in the current version — not a future plan. What is sent is a short list of named events, with no content attached to any of them:
- A play was created, deleted or duplicated.
- A folder was created.
- A route was drawn.
- A play animation was run.
- A PDF was exported, and which layout was used (for example “wristbands” or “call sheet”).
- A play's animation was exported as a video.
- A share sheet was closed, with what kind of file (image, video or PDF), how many, and whether something was sent or saved.
- The Routr Pro screen was opened, which feature or screen opened it, which pages of its introduction were viewed, and whether you upgraded before closing it.
- A purchase or restore was started or finished, which plan it was for, and how it ended (for example completed, cancelled or waiting for approval).
- The welcome screen was completed.
- The first-play tutorial was offered, whether you started it or skipped it, and whether it was a replay.
- A step of the first-play tutorial was finished or skipped, and which step (for example “draw a route”); and whether the tutorial was finished or ended early.
- The app asked iOS to show its rating prompt, and what you had just done when it asked (shared a play, watched an animation, or finished a play). Not whether the prompt appeared, and not what you answered — the app is never told either.
Alongside those events, TelemetryDeck records general device information — device model, iOS version, app version — and an anonymous identifier derived from your device, used only to tell one device apart from another, so that ten events from one coach are not counted as ten coaches. It cannot be reversed to identify you, and we cannot use it to look you up.
What is never sent: the content of your plays, the names you give plays or folders, anything you draw, your name, your email address, your location, or your Apple Account. No advertising or tracking identifier is collected, nothing collected is sold or shared with data brokers, and none of it is used to track you across other apps or websites.
Crash reports. If the app crashes, Apple may share a crash report with us through App Store Connect — but only if you have turned on "Share With App Developers" in iOS Settings. We do not run a crash reporting service of our own. These reports describe what went wrong technically and do not include the content of your plays.
Opting out. Turn off Share Usage Analytics in the app’s Settings → Privacy & Legal and the app stops sending analytics at once: none of the events above are sent, and the analytics service is not started on later launches until you turn it back on. Separately, turning off "Share With App Developers" in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements stops Apple sharing crash reports with us. You can also email ikiprotichian@gmail.com to ask that analytics already associated with your device be deleted.
Ratings and reviews
From time to time the app may ask iOS to show Apple’s standard rating prompt. The prompt belongs to Apple: iOS decides whether it appears, and a rating or review you leave goes to Apple and the App Store, not to us through the app. We see reviews the same way anyone does, on the App Store, under the nickname you chose there. You can turn these prompts off for every app with In-App Ratings & Reviews, in the App Store section of iOS Settings.
Purchases
Routr offers optional in-app purchases: Routr Pro as an auto-renewing subscription, and Routr Pro Lifetime as a single non-recurring purchase. Either one unlocks the same features.
The transaction is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details, your billing address, your name or your email. What the app receives from Apple is a receipt saying that a purchase exists and whether it is still valid — nothing that identifies you personally, and it is read on your device rather than sent anywhere.
We do not store your entitlement on our side, or on yours: each time the app launches it asks Apple again whether you are entitled. That means we hold no purchase record of yours at all. Managing or cancelling a subscription happens in your Apple Account settings, which we have no access to. Apple's handling of purchase data is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Email you send to us
If you contact us using the "Send Feedback" option in the app or by emailing ikiprotichian@gmail.com, we receive whatever you write, your email address, and any device information your email client includes. We use this only to respond to your message and improve the app. We do not add you to mailing lists and do not share your email with anyone else.
Children
Routr is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app does not require an account, does not have social features, and does not collect personal information by design.
Your choices and rights
Because your data is stored on your own device, you have direct control over it:
- Delete your data: Delete folders or plays inside the app, or delete the app itself to remove all locally stored data.
- Subscription: Manage or cancel in iOS Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions, or from Manage Subscription in Routr's own Settings screen.
- Analytics: Turn off Share Usage Analytics in the app’s Settings, or email us to delete analytics associated with your device. See "Opting out" above.
If you are in a jurisdiction with specific data rights (such as the EU under GDPR, or California under CCPA), you have the right to request information about, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. Given that we do not maintain user accounts or a server-side database of users, in practice we typically hold no personal data beyond emails you have sent us. To make a request, email ikiprotichian@gmail.com.
Security
Data on your device is protected by iOS device security (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID). We do not maintain our own servers that store your data, which means there is no central database for an attacker to compromise.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change. The app links here from its Settings screen and from its purchase screen, so this page is always the current version.
Website analytics
This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure visits and page performance without cookies. This is separate from the app analytics described above.
